HotGist: Runtown, record label settle out of court, @iRuntown, @ynbmusicpromo

Nigerian singer, Douglas Jack Agu, better known by his stage name Runtown, has settled the lawsuit with his record label, Ericmany Entertainment Limited.

The Enugu State-born songster who rose to fame after he collaborated with Davido to release a song produced by T-Spize titled ‘Gallardo’ in January 2014, had been dragged to court by his record label over claims that he collects money directly for shows without the knowledge of the label.

The label had also accused Runtown of signing up musical shows without their knowledge despite the fact that they still hold the copyright to all his music.

The 27-year-old singer had, however, responded with a counter-suit claiming the label’s boss, Prince Okwudili Umenyiora had been making incessant threats to his life.
Recall that the Federal High Court in Lagos had banned the ‘Kampala’ crooner from performing at any event or any form of recording until further notice.

The NET is, however, reporting that Runtown and his label have settled out of court with the help of the Olaniwun Ajayi law firm and a new agreement has been reached.

After a court hearing on June 14, 2016, in New York, both parties have agreed that Runtown will remain with the label for one more year but on the basis that his contract will be that of a partnership which gives him more control.
